INCOSE Foundation

The INCOSE Foundation is a charitable organization with the stated goal of advancing the development and image of systems engineering through funded scholarships, research, and international forums. The Foundation received its 501(c) (3) exempt status from the IRS on 30 September 2005.  This enables all U.S. donors to claim a charitable deduction on their annual income tax submissions.  The Foundation is exploring ways in which non-U.S. contributions can be solicited in ways that benefit individual donors.

The Foundation is a separate legal entity from INCOSE but both organizations are closely aligned in philosophy, strategic directions, and values.  The Foundation has its own separate Board of Directors, several of whom are also elected INCOSE Board members.

The Stevens Institute of Technology Doctoral Award carries a US $5,000 grant to a doctoral student along with a plaque and recognition at the annual INCOSE International Symposium. It was initiated in 2002 and has been presented to individuals at the University of Aveiro, Portugal (2009), the Missouri University of Science and Technology (2008) and the Institut National des Sciences Appliquees de Toulouse (also in 2008), University of Southern California (2007), the Southern Methodist University (2006), University of Pennsylvania (2005), Stanford University (2004), Stevens Institute (2003), and Leeds in the UK (2002).

The Johns Hopkins University / Applied Physics Laboratory Alexander Kossiakoff Scholarship, in partnership with the INCOSE Foundation, carries an award of $5,000, a plaque and recognition at the annual INCOSE International Symposium. The awardee is also offered a paid summer internship at JHU / APL working on relevant systems engineering problems. The award was initiated in 2009 and was presented to an individual at the Naval Air Systems Command within the Department of the Defense.
