As the Internationally recognized authority on Systems Engineering, INCOSE has instantiated the Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) credential. The CSEP is a professional recognition of a person's experience, understanding and application of the collective Systems Engineering Body of Knowledge. Consider the following sample criterion for the CSEP:
- Attainment of the CSEP is based upon an applicant's:
- Demonstrated years of experience in the Systems Engineering Profession
- Systems Engineering Peer recommendations
- Successfully passing the CSEP exam
- Person's Interested in pursing the CSEP need not be an INCOSE member.
- Similar to many other Professional Organization Certifications, each CSEP is required to maintain professional awareness and involvement through professional education. The CSEP is on a three-year renewal cycle based upon attainment of professional development units (PDUs).

Basis for INCOSE Certification Exam to Change Starting July 2008
The INCOSE certification examination is currently based on INCOSE’s Systems Engineering Handbook, version 2A and will continue to be based on this version of the handbook through June of 2008. Starting in July 2008, the examination will be based upon version 3.1 of the INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook.
If you plan to take your certification exams prior to June 30, 2008, should continue to prepare with version 2A. If you are planning to take your certification exams after July 1, 2008, should prepare with version 3.1. The Systems Engineering Handbook, version 3.1, is being finalized and will be available soon for both download and purchase upon release. See the INCOSE Store for details.
