Emerging at the end of the Second World War, systems engineering is becoming increasingly recognized as an effective approach to acquiring and maintaining the systems which underpin modern civilization. However at the same time, the nature of systems engineering itself is still being debated. Within this context come and hear about:

• the origin and evolution of systems engineering
• the nature of systems engineering, why it is being debated and how to resolve the debate
