INCOSE eNote: News and Notes from the INCOSE Network
Vol 1 Issue 2 – 15 June 2004
As members make their way to Toulouse for the 14th annual INCOSE International Symposium, preparations are underway for many more regional and international events. With events ranging from the US to Australia, from application to research, INCOSE is sponsoring a broad range of conferences and symposia over the coming year. Mark your calendar so that you can take advantage of these opportunities to share and learn with experts from around the world.
Realizing and applying the strengths of both systems engineering and project management is imperative for success of challenging projects involving complex systems. Close integration of these two disciplines can provide on-time, within budget, per specifications projects through innovation, evolution and synergism of project management and systems engineering processes and practice. Register now for "Synergy Between Systems Engineering and Project Management" and explore the possibilities with experts from both disciplines. Reduced fee early registration ends July 31, 2004 and the deadline for conference-rate resort reservations is August 25, 2004. For additional information and on-line registration, see www.icseng.info.
The US Department of Defense is undertaking a major transformation in response to the new world environment and unforeseen threats. The ability to effect this transformation can only be realized if defense systems, including space-based, command and control, and information systems, can effectively satisfy Mission Area and Capability requirements, and achieve and sustain a high degree of Interoperability, systems integration, readiness, and availability. This conference seeks to create an interactive forum for program managers, systems engineers, chief scientists, and engineers and managers from the requirements, design, verification, support, and logistics communities from both government and industry. In association with the Object Management Group (OMG), the Mid-Atlantic chapters of INCOSE are sponsoring the 2004 INCOSE Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. Under the theme "Model-Driven Systems Engineering", this conference will focus on means to create and maintain models that enable systems engineers and other stakeholders to comprehensively understand system requirements and effectively communicate them to design engineers. MARC 2004 will feature multiple paper tracks, panel discussions, tutorials, and exhibits. For more information, see www.incose-marc.org.
The SETE 2004 theme is “Focussing on Project Success” in recognition of the role systems thinking, systems engineering, and effective test and evaluation play in the success of projects large and small. This also includes examples of project recovery, where systems thinking has contributed to getting projects back on track. If you are involved in the analysis or development of systems - whether as an acquirer, developer, or user of complex systems or capabilities - this conference is for you. The annual International Workshop provides INCOSE members the opportunity to come together and collaborate on a broad range of projects. Mark your calendar today, and watch the INCOSE website for additional details on the 2005 workshop.
The primary objective of the 3rd Annual Conference on Systems Engineering Research is to provide practitioners and researchers in academia, industry, and government a common platform to present, discuss and influence systems engineering research with the intent to enhance systems engineering practice and education. This year's conference will focus on secure and intelligent network centric systems; and agile deployment and development in the aerospace & defense, finance & banking, IT and telecommunications, and pharmaceutical and healthcare domains. For more information, see www.stevens.edu/cser/.
Sponsored by the Finger Lakes Chapter, Rochester will offer a robust technical program The theme is "Bridging Industry, Government, and Academia," which was chosen to highlight the need to move beyond the thinking that system engineering is just something for large government systems. The region's strong commercial business base uses system engineering to be competitive, and the IS2005 goal is to significantly increase the number of commercial papers in this conference to provide a rich forum for sharing best practices with government and academia. Both government and commercial-based companies, as well as universities who provide the talent we hire, are striving to meet better, faster, cheaper mantra. Yet, there is still the need to maintain efficient and effective methods as we develop products and skills, and reach toward new markets. We you to contribute to bridging these goals.
