Levis Appointed to INCOSE Strategic Team. INCOSE is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alexander H. Levis as "Associate Director Strategy, Academic Matters and R&D". Having recently completed a three year appointment as the Chief Scientist of the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Levis is University Professor of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering and heads the System Architectures Laboratory of the C3I Center, George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. Additional information on Dr. Levis's impressive background is available online. We look forward to the experience and insight that Alex will bring in supporting INCOSE's strategic efforts.

INCOSE Elections. The Nominations and Elections Committee is pleased to present the 2004 slate of candidates for elected offices on the Board of Directors and the Member Board. Before completing your official ballot (to be mailed from the Central Office on October 1), we encourage you to review the vision statements and profiles for all candidates available online.

All ballots must received by the Central Office in Seattle, Washington, USA no later than November 29. Thank you for taking the time to cast your vote.

Final Call for Abstracts for CSER 2005. The deadline for abstracts for 3rd Annual Conference on Systems Engineering Research is October 1. Doctoral candidates pursuing sysrens engineering related research are specially encouraged to submit abstracts.

The primary objective of this conference is to provide practitioners and researchers in academia, industry, and government a common platform to present, discuss and influence systems engineering research with the intent to enhance systems engineering practice and education. This year's conference will focus on secure and intelligent network centric systems; and agile deployment and development in the aerospace & defense, finance & banking, IT and telecommunications, and pharmaceutical and healthcare domains. INCOSE 2005 Call for Participation. With the theme “Systems Engineering: Bridging Industry, Government and Academia," the 2005 International Symposium is being designed for delegates from all backgrounds to share their experience and research in ways that bridge domains and further the practice of systems engineering. Please mark your calendar and join us 10-15 July 2005 in Rochester, New York, USA. Abstracts for papers, panels and tutorials are invited. Detailed information regarding submissions can be found on the IS2005 website.

New SE Glossary Online. The Systems Engineering and Evaluation Centre at the University of South Australia, INCOSE Region VI, and the Systems Engineering Center of Excellence have published a new systems engineering glossary at www.seecforum.unisa.edu.au/glossary/. The purpose of the glossary is to provide definitions of terms used in systems engineering and the source and date of the definition for general use. Users are invited to take part in this project by entering additional definitions.
