INCOSE eNote: News and Notes from the INCOSE Network
Vol 2 Issue 1 – 29 January 2005
INCOSE is pleased to announce that the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration is the latest organization to join the Corporate Advisory Board (CAB). Forty-nine organizations - representing government, industry, and academic institutions around the world - comprise the Corporate Advisory Board and serve as the "Voice of the Corporate Customer" for INCOSE, providing guidance on overall INCOSE direction, focus, and priorities.
The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration is a civil government agency with the task of boosting the overall capability of the total defence organisation. The aim is to be a defence-equipment supply agency that is skilled and is in demand, including an international perspective. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration is one of the most project-intensive authorities in Sweden.

Behind the leadership of Dr. Larry Pohlmann, an e-interview and book review section has debuted in the Members Area section of the INCOSE website. While many more interviews and book reviews will be posted in the future, enjoy the inaugural interview with Dr. Andrew P. Sage (editor of the INCOSE Journal of Systems Engineering, an INCOSE Fellow, and Pioneer Award recipient) plus the review of Writing Better Requirements by Ian Alexander and Richard Stevens.
The SysML Partners have made their latest Systems Modeling Language (SysML) draft available for public review, and are also submitting it to the Object Management Group (OMG) for consideration as a future standard. SysML is a general-purpose modeling language for systems engineering applications that is being supported by a wide range of industry leaders, government agencies, and tool vendors. You can find a list of SysML supporters and download the latest draft of the SysML specification from www.SysML.org.
INCOSE is seeking nominations for two prestigious awards to be presented at the 2005 International Symposium. The Pioneer Award is presented annually to one distinguished individual or team (whether from within INCOSE or from the community at large) who, by their achievements in the engineering of systems, has contributed uniquely to major products or outcomes enhancing society or meeting its needs. The criteria may apply to a single outstanding outcome or a lifetime of significant achievements in effecting successful systems. The Founders Award is presented annually to one distinguished INCOSE member who has made a major contribution to INCOSE. The award recognizes outstanding individual contribution to INCOSE, either a single event or ongoing efforts. These significant contributions have positively affected the advancement of INCOSE or an INCOSE Chapter.
Nominations for the Pioneer and Founders Awards must be received by 28 February 2005. More information on these awards can be found at www.incose.org/about/hall/criteria.aspx.
The PMI Risk SIG's Annual Project Risk Symposium (May 1-5 in Washington, DC) provides a unique forum on comprehensive risk and project management techniques and analysis. INCOSE members are invited to submit their work to two upcoming conferences.
- The 13th IEEE International Requirements Engineering Conference (29 August - 2 September, Paris, France) is seeking research or industrial practice papers, tutorials, workshops, and/or panel submissions. RE'05 will bring together researchers, practitioners, and students to exchange problems, solutions, and experiences concerning requirements. The conference will emphasize the crucial role that requirements play in the successful development and delivery of systems, products, and services. For additional information, please visit http://www.re05.org.
- The 18th International Conference on Systems Engineering (16-18 August, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA) is seeking abstracts of application experience and/or research in systems control. Each international conference is jointly organized, on a rotational basis, among three institutions - University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA; Technical University of Wroclaw, Poland; and Coventry University, UK. IEEE CS will publish the proceedings of the conference. For additional information, please visit www.icseng.info.
