the INCOSE Network
Volume 4
Issue 2, 7 March 2007
INSIGHT Issue Coming soon... INSIGHT, the
newsletter of INCOSE, is published four times per year (January, April,
July, October). INSIGHT features status and information about INCOSE's
technical work, local chapters, and committees and boards. Additionally,
related events, editorials, book reviews, trends, and how-to-do articles
that are pertinent to the many aspects of a systems engineer's job are also
included.
Do you have a submission for INSIGHT’s next issue? The theme will be Academics. The
deadline for inputs is 1 May! To submit your

WHAT: International
Symposium 2007
WHERE: Town and
Country Resort, San Diego,
CA
WHEN: 24-28 June,
2007
FOR MORE INFORMATION:
www.incose.org/symp2007
At the International Workshop in Albuquerque in January,
the Host Committee, Events Committee, Technical Leadership Team, and Board
of Directors made great progress toward creating a "best-ever
symposium" for 2007. This is no
small feat in view of the previous symposia. IS 2007 will feature Plenary Speakers
representing INCOSE's work internationally (Singapore), professionally
(London Underground) and tactically.
A Plenary Panel will address "Are new systems engineering
principles required to treat enterprises as systems?" Technical
Program tracks will combine presentations of papers (112), panels (14), and
tutorials (16, including five preconference sessions at no charge). A full day Academic Forum, open to all IS
2007 participants, will generate ideas for educating systems engineering
practitioners. A new initiative in
model-based systems engineering will
be kicked off--including an MBSE Grand Challenge that will present sample
problems which interested parties can use to compare their favorite version
of methods and tools. There will also be a New Member Orientation, an
Introduction to Working Groups, Awards, an update on the CSEP program,
exhibitors showing the state-of-the-practice, and an INCOSE business
meeting. Attendees can optionally
attend a Latin American Systems Engineering dinner. And don't miss the post-IS tour to visit
the Tokomak!
WHAT:CE2007 -
14th ISPE International Conference on Concurrent Engineering

Apply
now for Doctoral Award. The INCOSE
Foundation in collaboration with the Stevens Institute solicits
applications for the Doctoral Award for Promising Research in Systems
Engineering and Integration. Applications Close 15 April. The purpose of this award is to
inspire and recognize innovative doctoral-level research related to the
filed of systems engineering and integration. This award carries a
$5,000 grant to the doctoral student along with a plaque and recognition at
the Annual INCOSE Symposium. More details can be found on the INCOSE
website under the heading of Advancing the Practice.
AP233--You Can Still Get A Look
At It. If you missed the January INCOSE meeting, you can still get a look
at the full html build for AP233.
The INCOSE review material is posted at the INCOSE website

background material.
Singapore Chapter, Welcome to INCOSE! Singapore became a fully
chartered chapter in January 2007 after only five months, beginning
Start-up status in August 2006. This
is a testament to the drive and energy of its leadership and the support of
Government, Industry, and Academia.
The President of the Singapore
chapter is Professor Yeo Tat Son. Singapore's INCOSE membership is now the
highest in Asia, and second to Australia in Region VI. Additionally, the Singapore Chapter,
supported by the Australia,
Taiwan,
and Japan Chapters, is leading the planning and implementation of the
Asia-Pacific Systems Engineering Conference 2007 (on 23-24 March). Thanks are owed to Joe Kasser, the Member
Board Region VI representative, Cecilia Haskins, the guress of Chapter
Start-up, and the wonderful staff of INCOSE central for all of their
assistance in making this happen.
INCOSE Liaison
Report for November. INCOSE sent
seven representatives to various meetings for SC7 (October 2006), the ISO
committee responsible for Systems and Software Engineering. The meetings were held in three different
locations: South Korea, Spain, and Luxemburg.
INCOSE is involved in the
following Working Groups:
WG4 -- Tools and Environments
WG7 -- Life Cycle Management
WG10 -- Process Assessment
WG20 -- SW Engineering BOK
WG24 -- SW Life Cycles for Very Small
Enterprises
WG42 -- Architecture
There are several SC7
standards under revision at this time:
15288
-- SE Process
15504 Part 6 -- SE Process Assessment
24766 -- Reqts Engrg Tool Reqts
18018 -- Config Mgmt Tool Reqts
15026 -- Systems and Software
Assurance Engrg
24733 -- Software Engrg Certification
IEEE 1471 is being fast
tracked to become an ISO standard.
EIA 632 will be fast tracked when it completes its update in 2007.
Many thanks go to Ken Crowder and his team for all the hard work and for
their continued involvement in this important activity.
INCOSE Website Update.
Papers
from the 2006 International Symposium are now available through i-Pub.
Bob
Kenley will be shifting the BoD and Governance calendars to Coordinated
