Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft Systems Engineer at SAIC
The selected Systems Engineer will be a member of a Systems Engineering team working in support of the P-8A Poseidon IPT for the NAVAIR Program Office, PMA-290. The P-8A Poseidon is a military variant of the Boeing Commercial Airplane (BCA) 737-800. It is the designated follow-on to the P-3 Orion with the primary mission areas of armed Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), armed Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW), and Intelligence (INT). As an Engineer on the P-8A team, the candidate will employ proven systems engineering methodologies and practices to support the P-8A effort, post Milestone C and in developmental engineering phases for incremental upgrades.
The chosen candidate will work on-site at NAS Patuxent River supporting the P-8A?s Assistant Program Manager for Systems Engineering (APMSE) performing tasks including:
- Direct Support to the Chief Systems Engineer. This effort will consist of formulating and writing Engineering Plans (SEP, etc.) for the P-8A Program. The candidate will work directly with the Technical IPT leads (Aircraft Systems, Mission Systems, Acoustic Sensor Systems, etc.) as well as T&E and Product Support Leads to solve difficult technical challenges. The candidate will coordinate large scale technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR). The candidate will also participate in, coordinate and provide leadership of the Risk Management and Configuration Management processes. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the office of the APMSE as a Systems Engineering expert.
- Participate in various Integrated Product Teams/Working Groups. This may include participating in meetings, performing technical work in support of these teams, as well as reporting status and progress of these various teams/groups to the P-8A customer. This tasking will require the successful candidate to posses the ability to give technical and process briefings to high-level team members and customers, as well as the ability to work independently at customer locations with minimal oversight. Along with briefing abilities, strong technical writing skills are a must for this position.
Required Skills:
- Candidate must currently hold a Secret clearance.
- Candidate must have excellent technical writing and presentation skills.
- Candidate must have knowledge of the DoD 5000 series Acquisition Guidelines. Experience with NAVAIR 4-Phase and SETR evolution strongly desired.
- Candidate should have experience with the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) community or acquisition programs in Naval fixed-wing aviation.
- Candidate must have the ability to work well with multiple government and contractor teams.
- Candidate must have seven or more years of systems engineering experience with a solid understanding of Systems Engineering practices.
- Candidate must be located in Southern Maryland
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university or addition of 5 years to overall experience requirement.
SYSTEMS ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 3 years experience, or 1 year with degree or certification in SE
OVERALL ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE INCLUDING SYSTEMS ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE: Minimum 6 years general engineering experience, 5 years with Masters, 4 years with PhD
Desired Skills: A Master's degree in engineering or related field preferred.

MANAGER SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
Responsibilities:
- Manage a Systems Design staff (15) in the design, implementation and systems integration of airborne computers, displays and related systems for use on new and legacy aircraft.
- Manage and continuously improve the requirements management, safety engineering, and engineering cost proposal processes.
- Provide leadership and support for requirements management, project management, and cost engineering tool sets.
- Provide leadership and direction to Systems/Project Engineers that are implementing avionic systems integration projects. Support business development activities for avionic systems projects.
- Mentor and train engineers in the implementation of Systems Engineering Processes; including requirements management and project management.
- Some domestic and international travel required.
Responsibilities:
- 5+ years experience as a Senior Systems Engineer required
- Must have prior relevant management experience
- Experience establishing business goals and objectives, establishing budgets and managing schedules and subcontractors.
- Possess a demonstrated ability to create and implement the full V&V requirements management process life-cycle for new products based upon customer requirements.
- Experience with systems architecture and requirement methodologies and tools required; DOORS preferred.
- Must have excellent communication, organizational, analytical and PC skills
- Proven experience in the design and operation of avionic systems, including aircraft navigation and display systems preferred.
- Good working knowledge of commercial and military avionic specifications and development process and FAA regulations.
- Aircraft pilot experience a plus.
- BS degree in Engineering required; MS preferred.
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Prefer CSEP certification
