The purpose of the COSYSMO model is to help users estimate the Systems Engineering effort for large-scale software and hardware projects. This is done through Cost Estimating Relationships in a parametric model. Two main standards have been selected: ANSI/EIA 632 standard as a guide for identifying the Systems Engineering tasks and ISO/IEC 15288 standard for identifying the life cycle phases used in COSYSMO. Several USC CSE Affiliates and members of INCOSE have been involved in the definition of the drivers, formulation of rating scales, data collection, and strategic direction of the model. To date, data has been collected on 14 systems engineering projects. However, more data is needed in order to perform significant statistical analyses.
