Research projects are the heart of the INCOSE SECOE. Through its funded
projects, the SECOE develops knowledge and understanding of the engineering
of complex systems.
As a future vision, the body of knowledge created through this research
will provide an underlying theoretical background for systems engineering.
Such a background will improve the current heuristic knowledge and pragmatic
practice by:
- Providing a framework for teaching the practice of systems engineering
Current practice is experiential and takes years to
learn
- Understanding the effects of variation in environment, process,
or product
Current practice handles variation only through pragmatic
decisions
Ideas for projects come from both researchers and funding sources.
SECOE also maintains a research agenda of prioritized,
important topics that are looking for funding and/or researchers.
