RLM Technical Tour

The RLM Technical Tours allows delegates to see first hand two major projects conducted in Melbourne.
The tours will take all of Friday with lunch provided.

One tour will be in defence and one in infrastructure. The defence project we will be showing you is Australia’s Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN). This JORN project is a HF based over the horizon radar system which is geographically distributed around Australia. The tour will take you through the Melbourne Integration Facility where much of the JORN system has and is being integrated. This laboratory the best of its kind in Australia is connected by communications links to the rest of JORN and should provide interesting insights into defence projects in Australia.

The infrastructure project you will see encompasses two underground tunnels which link south-eastern, western and north western freeways underneath the city of Melbourne. This project is an example of a large scale civil infrastructure project which has a major impact on traffic flows around Melbourne itself. The road system itself is supported by sophisticated computerised tolling and video systems, this tour will provide an overview of this large scale project.

A bus will be provided and depart from the hotel. Lunch will be provided.

Note: No mobile phones, cameras, portable computers, personal organisers or any recording devices permitted for the JORN part of the tour.
