Harbor Cruises, Whale Watching, Deep Sea Fishing
San Diego is the gateway to the largest body of water on Earth, the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can enjoy everything from calm dinner cruises with live music at sunset on the bay, to adventurous deep sea fishing expeditions. Diving and whale watching (in season) are also popular. All of these depart from the downtown Embarcadero, or from nearby marinas.
Tip: You haven't seen San Diego until you have experienced a guided tour from the bay. There are also amphibious tours.

Point Loma
A few miles from downtown is the peninsula protecting San Diego bay, called Point Loma. High up on a hilltop ridge, there is the Fort Rosecrans military museum and cemetery, as well as the Cabrillo Monument. From there one has a view of San Diego and the bay, as well as the open ocean. Visit the historic lighthouse, and the displays of historical artifacts in the museum, and hike around the grounds. Down on the Pacific Ocean side there are marvelous times pools for exploration whenever there is an especially low tide.
Tip: : Be sure to select a day with clear weather, then you will be able to enjoy amazing views. On the way, stop at the famous Point Loma Seafood for a snack, enjoying the direct fishing-boat-to-restaurant connection that one seldom sees nowadays.

The Gaslamp Quarter
The historic downtown center known as the "Gas Lamp," and has been renovated into a clean, safe, and vibrant urban experience. People live, work, shop, eat, and play there. On any given night, there is live music to be enjoyed. The newly opened House of Blues offers top-notch musical entertainers.
Tip: Don't sit down at the first restaurant you see. Walk the Gas Lamp and see all that it has to offer before you decide. Things don't start jumping until after 9:00 PM, then reach a peak after midnight. Don't miss Croce's, still run by the late singer-songwriter's widow, and check out the Irish pubs. For something special stop in to Café Sevilla for authentic Spanish atmosphere and food.

Julian
Founded after the Civil War by confederate soldiers seeking their fortune, this well preserved old west mining town offers ample charm and adventure. Located in the a natural setting in the mountains just over an hour away from downtown San Diego, Julian offers an enjoyable outing. While you are there, stop by and visit the California Wolf Center, dedicated to preserving these noble animals and increasing public awareness of their role in nature.
Tip: Julian offers unique shopping opportunities, as well as interesting dinning establishments. Be sure to try the famous Julian apple pies.
