C00: INCOSE SE Handbook v2a in Preparation for the CSEP Exam

Saturday / Sunday - June 23 & 24 – 0800-1700
(2-day Course; Minimum enrollment 10)
John Clark, Northrop Grumman

Interested in Systems Engineering certification? The Hampton Roads Area (HRA) Chapter of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) will present a 2-day tutorial immediately preceding the INCOSE International Symposium. This tutorial provides an overview of the INCOSE SE Handbook to prepare for the INCOSE SE Certification exam. Taught by John Clark, Chief Engineer, Northrop Grumman Defense Mission Systems, the tutorial covers the Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) process as well as the management and technical sections of the SE Handbook, Version 2a (the current basis for the certification exam), in a study group format.

Bio:
John O. Clark is a Chief Engineer with Defense Mission Systems, a Division of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems. He is located at the Warfare Systems Engineering Department in Virginia Beach, VA. John currently supports the CVN 21 aircraft carrier program and the NAVSEA PEO Integrated Warfare System Technical Director. He has over 40 years experience applying systems and software engineering to the acquisition, development, verification/testing, operations, and support/maintenance of military command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, radar, sonar, electronic warfare, identification, weapon, network, scientific, and information systems. John received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and an MS in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York.

Abstract:
The goals of this tutorial are to: 1) provide a tutorial on the INCOSE SE Handbook v2a, 2) describe the CSEP process and provide sample questions, and 3) help candidates prepare for the CSEP Exam.

The tutorial consists of eleven sections from Saturday June 23 through Sunday June 24, from 0800 - 1700 PST. Prior to the tutorial, participants are encouraged to read the appropriate sections of the Handbook available for download free to INCOSE members or $20 per hardcopy to non-members at http://www.incose.org/ProductsPubs/products/sehandbook.aspx

This tutorial is provided through the sponsorship of the HRA Chapter of INCOSE. Registration is required and includes a nominal fee of $350 per registrant to cover INCOSE expenses. For more information on the CSEP application process, and to apply on-line in advance of the tutorial, see http://www.incose.org/educationcareers/certification/ or contact John Clark (john.o.clark@ngc.com).

CSEP Exam-First Option:
INCOSE has approved the option to take the CSEP Exam first and then submit the remainder of the application (degree, experience, references) second. The Exam-First application form is provided for your convenience.

An INCOSE representative will be at the CSEP course to help applicants submit their application on-site. After submitting the application to INCOSE (via email and US mail signed) and receiving authorization from INCOSE, attendees of the course can schedule the CSEP Exam at the Prometric office in San Diego (or any other Prometric office) within one year. The Exam-First option is a Beta Test: ONLY course attendees can take the Exam- First. If the course and its applicants are successful, then INCOSE will consider opening the Exam-First option up to anyone.

A certificate of course completion will be provided by the Hampton Roads Area (HRA) Chapter and signed by the instructor.

Caution: Applicants must complete the full application process before becoming CSEPs (references, experience, degrees). Until their full application is approved by INCOSE, applicants receive no certificate upon passing the Exam and cannot call themselves CSEPs. The non-refundable full application fee is required up-front with the application.

Human Systems Integration Seminar

Sunday June 24 – FREE SEMINAR
Time: 0800-1700

Human Systems Integration (HSI) unites 8 technical domains and allows the practitioner to address human-related issues in system development in an integrated manner. The seminar presents principles of human factors engineering, personnel selection, manpower, training, safety, occupational health, survivability, and habitability, and explains how these activities across these separate areas should be integrated to reduce personnel costs and improve system performance. Attendees will become familiar with each of the HSI domains and the areas of common concern across domains, and will understand the rationale for conducting an HSI program. Topics include HSI program planning, HSI requirements and metrics, HSI analyses and evaluation methods, and tradeoffs among HSI domains. More...
