Welcome by the IS2013 Technical Program Chair

Dear Colleagues,

We’d like to take this opportunity to invite you to historic and pedestrian friendly Philadelphia to participate in the largest international gathering of Systems Engineers in 2013. Thanks to the many excellent submissions we are able once again to offer a stimulating and comprehensive technical program.

World leaders in Systems Engineering will begin to converge on Philly on June 22nd and 23rd for several business meetings, 3 workshops, a CSEP tutorial plus 3 tutorials on some fundamentals of Systems Engineering. On Monday the 24th the Symposium officially opens. From Monday through Thursday we will offer 7 simultaneous tracks including a renowned plenary speaker each day. We will present 72 papers, 11 panels, 4 roundtables, 8 more tutorials and approximately 30 posters. On Friday, after the official close of the Symposium, we will offer technical tours in the region that are sure to inspire the engineer in all of us.

This year our program includes topics that cover a diverse combination of sectors and systems engineering skills. The 2013 Technical Program will truly offer value for every Systems Engineer in attendance. The detailed schedule of the technical program will be available in April. Although all parts of the Technical Program are available to all symposium attendees, some portions of the program carry an extra cost and need to be reserved and pre-paid when you register. Invitation letters will be sent out when the site opens so plan to register early in order to take advantage of the options which have limited availability.

Additionally, Philadelphia offers many attractions that may be of interest to systems engineers. For instance, the Ben Franklin Institute showcases groundbreaking scientific advances from the past and present, Independence Hall preserves and teaches us about the historic birthplace of American democracy, and the Mutter Museum at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia is dedicated to medical and pathology studies.

Welcome to Philly!

Welcome by Technical Director

INCOSE symposia provide unparalleled value to engage and network with the global systems community. The formal technical program serves as a catalyst for the generation of ideas that lead to the advancement of knowledge through our more than forty working groups and collaborative initiatives with other professional organizations. We are striving to make our working groups and collaborative initiatives more virtual to engage the wider systems community, whether individual contributors, local chapter working groups, or other professional organizations. Please browse the Systems Engineering Body of Knowledge at www.bkcase.org/sebok/, the Model-Based Systems Engineering initiative at www.omgwiki.org/MBSE/doku.php, and the charters and websites of our working groups at www.incose.org/about/organization/ti.aspx.

We need you to engage with us in advancing the knowledge base on a more continuing basis beyond this symposium. Please identify yourself and your interests to any member wearing a Technical Operations ribbon on their badge. Or email us. We look forward to working with you.
