Speaking Topic: 21st Century Engineering: Challenges and Opportunities

Mr. Stephen P. Welby is the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Systems Engineering. Since September 2009 he is the principal systems engineering advisor to the Secretary of Defense and is responsible for establishing and executing engineering policy and oversight across the Department. Mr. Welby has over 23 years of government and industrial experience in technology and product development, including senior leadership positions at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Speaking Topic: Systems Engineering, System Thinking and Complexity Science – an essential synthesis

Professor Brian Collins is Professor of Engineering Policy at University College London. Before that he held positions as Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department for Transport’s (DfT) and the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS), and was also Professor of Information Systems at Cranfield University. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2009.

Dianne D. Anderson is the Executive Director of the Great Lakes Energy Institute at Case Western Reserve University. Ms. Anderson has more than 25 years of experience in top-management positions in the energy industry, setting strategies in oil, natural gas, and electricity-generation, and managing regulatory affairs with the U.S. and Canadian governments.

Speaking Topic: The Program Manager’s Perspective: “Systems Engineering Leadership Drives Program Management Success”

John Rader is the Vice President for Tiltrotor Programs within the Vertical Lift division of Boeing Military Aircraft. Through a Strategic Alliance with Bell Helicopter, John and his Bell counterpart lead the Bell Boeing team in the design, production, and sustainment of the V-22 Osprey aircraft. Previously, he led the Boeing portion of the V-22 program as director and program manager, responsible for leading the design, production, manufacturing, and sustainment of the Osprey fuselage section in Philadelphia, PA. Rader?s first position with the Boeing Company in 2004 was as the Director, Systems Engineering and Integration at Boeing Space Exploration Systems, Washington, D.C.
