Abstract:  This presentation will provide an introduction to Pattern-Based Systems Engineering (PBSE). Technical thought leaders have discussed the need to address 10:1 more complex systems with 10:1 reduction in effort, using people from a 10:1 larger community than the “systems expert” group. This order of magnitude improvement is necessary to address the rapidly increasing complexity of today’s systems. PBSE leverages the power of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to rapidly deliver benefits with order-of-magnitude improvements to the larger systems community. Projects using PBSE get a “learning curve jumpstart” from an existing Pattern, gaining the advantages of its content, and improve that pattern with what they learn, for future users. The presentation will introduce PBSE and how it enhances platform/product line development by leveraging re-usable, configurable models for dramatic reductions in effort across the enterprise. The INCOSE MBSE Initiative Patterns Challenge Team site found at the link below contains many additional resources on PBSE and provides notes from all the recent meetings and PBSE activities.
