Webinar 128 Human Systems Engineering

John Clark from the HRA Chapter will be presenting webinar 129 September 11, 2019 11am-12pm EDT
Topic: Human Systems Engineering Part II

How do we systems engineer humans? How do we engineer systems that include humans? Do all systems include humans? If so, which humans, how are they included in a system, and how do we perform systems engineering on them? Are they elements of the system like hardware and software are? Do we have hardware, software, and humanware? (Yes, you heard it here first folks, humanware!). Are there any systems that do not include humans in any way whatsoever? This presentation discusses these questions from the SE Standards and INCOSE SE Handbook perspectives, going back to their earlier versions and coming up to date, including the two most recent approaches. At the end of this presentation we ask you to answer the question: Which of the two most recent approaches do you consider to be the optimum and for what reasons? Joining instructions can be found at (INCOSE Login Required): https://lnkd.in/dGvuBcG

Overview of the INCOSE SE Handbook V4.0

John Clark Presented and "Overview of the INCOSE SE Handbook V4.0 at the INCOSE International Symposium on 21 July 2019.

A summary: This tutorial provides a useful overview of the INCOSE SE Handbook V4.0 using key excerpts from the official Technical Product approved by INCOSE Technical Operations in December 2016. Participants will benefit by learning how to apply the SE processes to realize systems, complex systems, and systems of systems, including key SE terminology, principles, processes, tailoring, what-to-do, and how-to-do SE to achieve project, organizational, and business success. The intended audience includes participants interested in learning and applying SE based on ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, and who wish to increase their professional and/or personal value to their project and organization. Case studies, questions, answers, and group exercises are included to help participants apply the concepts being presented.
The INCOSE Hampton Roads Area Chapter developed the Tutorial, and the INCOSE Training Working Group presented and recorded the webinars. It contains enhancements to the Handbook developed by creating additional figures using the information contained in this and prior versions of the Handbook. The complete Tutorial and its webinar recordings are in high demand and are available via INCOSE Connect for free electronic download by all INCOSE members, Corporate Advisory Board members and their employees, and Academic Council members and their students at https://staff.incose.org/Library/Tutorials/training .
Note: This Tutorial is an overview of the Handbook and does not include the level of detail typically presented in a Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) preparation course, but it will help a candidate get a good start toward becoming a SEP. A certificate of completion will be provided on request.

John Clark Represents HRA INCOSE at the 2016 IW!!!

John Clark, HRA Director of Training and Education, participated in the 2016 INCOSE International Workshop (IW) held in Los Angeles from Saturday January 30th thru Tuesday February 2nd. The IW is held annually at that time of year to review the past year’s actual technical progress, next year’s planned technical progress, and prepare for the following July’s International Symposium (IS). The IW is The event of the year for systems engineers to contribute to the state of the art.

IMG_4176The IW is organized and run by the Technical Operations (Tech Ops) arm of INCOSE. There are a total of 41 Working Groups (WGs) and an average of 46 meetings involving these WGs and other groups on each of the four consecutive days. Tech Ops manages the WGs, IWs, and the ISs. The 2016 IW site may be viewed here. Photos of the IW may be viewed by logging into INCOSE Connect.

John serves as the founder and chair of the Training WG and the chair of the Process Improvement WG. He led these two WG meetings and previously received two awards as shown in the attached photo wearing his HRA shirt! John also serves as the founder and author of the SE Handbook Tutorial and SE Fundamentals Tutorial webinars, and the recruiter for the Tech Ops monthly webinars.

At the IW he represented the HRA Chapter in chapter-related meetings including the Americas Sector chapter leaders meeting chaired by the new Director, Dr Steven Dam, and the WG-Chapter integration meeting chaired by Jim Armstrong. Dr Dam will be organizing a chapter leaders meeting of all of the chapters soon. Jim presented a matrix of which Europe, Middle East, and Asia (EMEA) Sector Chapters participated in which WGs, and will develop one for the Americas Sector. HRA Chapter members are encouraged to increase their participation in the WGs.

The IW is a great place to exchange ideas on technical activities and work together for the benefit of the systems engineering community. HRA Chapter members are highly encouraged to participate in the IW. If you have any questions, please contact John at john.clark@incose.org.
