Atlanta April 2021 Meeting Information

Abstract:
James will share his experiences working on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV)
System. Real world operator and maintainer perspectives will be discussed that
focus on the systems strengths and weakness. The history of the BFV and the story
of its troubled development will be explored, with a particular focus on how unclear
requirements and scope creep negatively affected this system for several decades.
A great movie was made about the BFV development called “The Pentagon Wars”.
It’s a lighthearted comedy starring Kelsey Grammer, but the real comedy for
engineers will be found in the many bad programmatic and engineering decisions
made, resulting in a BFV system vastly different than what was first proposed. If
possible, please check out this film prior to the meeting as much can be learned per
to what not to do!

Speaker:
James Pyle - Lockheed Martin

Manufacturing Sources Material Shortages (DMSMS) mitigation. Originally from
Albany, Ga, James began his professional career in 1998 as a soldier working on the

Over the years we've hosted the INCOSE Symposium and the Conference on Systems Engineering Research (CSER), and been the home chapter of national and regional INCOSE leaders. Many of our members are engaged in defense, biotech, connected devices, and academia. Most members are located in St. Louis and the surrounding area (from Missouri S&T in Rolla to Scott Air Force Base in the Metro East), but all are welcome to affiliate with us.
