Welcome to the Southern Maryland Chapter

Founded in February, 1998, the Southern Maryland Chapter follows the INCOSE International Mission, Vision and Goals.

Additionally, we will:

  • Continue our outreach program to support systems engineering conferences and events at both the Regional and International levels of INCOSE
  • Continue to build partnerships with local professional associations offering unique and diverse systems engineering insights while complimenting their inherent interest areas

Finger Lakes Chapter presents "Engineering Trustworthy Secure Systems” - Dr. Mark Winstead, Chief Engineer MITRE Corporation

In 2016, the National Institute for Standards & Technology released NIST Special Publication 800-160 -guidance addressing the systems engineering subdiscipline of systems security engineering (redesignated NIST SP 800-160 volume 1 in 2018). In 2021 NIST kicked off an update to this seminal document to update for advances and lessons learned from its use, with the initial public draft (IPD) released for public comment 11 January 2022, the final public draft (FPD) expected May, and final this summer.

Renamed “Engineering Trustworthy Secure Systems” for the revision, Volume 1 Revision 1 aligns closely (partially intentionally, partially coincidentally) with INCOSE’s Systems Engineering Vision 2035 and supporting efforts such as security in the Future of Systems Engineering (FuSE). This presentation will discuss NIST SP 800-160 Volume 1 Revision 1 in its role as describing principles and concepts for a systems engineering team’s role with engineering trustworthy secure systems while relating it to INCOSE efforts and initiatives.

We use zoom for our monthly meetings. We also now have one location in Rochester for attending in-person: L3Harris Technologies facility at 1680 University Avenue, Rochester NY, 14610.
There is no cost to attend for anyone, but pre-registration is required.
To register, send an email to Teresa.Froncek@incose.net and state if you will attend in-person at L3Harris

For those virtual attendees: The link will be sent out a few days before the meeting.
For in-person attendees (L3Harris): Further instructions will be sent out before the meeting.

The Southern Maryland Chapter of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) began in February 1998.  The core group of organizers recognized the sizable Systems Engineering infrastructure  in the Patuxent River area created by the presence of the Naval Air Systems Command, the Naval Air Warfare Center (Aircraft Division and Field Activity at St. Indigos), the Naval Air Station, and a growing community of Industry partners.
