I am delighted to be writing this first INCOSE blog entry, part of our expanding social media activity which is intended to make INCOSE more accessible to our members and the wider systems engineering community. Adding to our LinkedIn group and our Facebook page, more recently we have established the INCOSE YouTube channel, and we are now making growing use of Twitter as a quick and easy method to alert our followers to news and content we think may interest them. We will use this blog, part of www.incose.org, to allow INCOSE leaders to speak directly to you, complementing the articles we post in our INCOSE Newsletter.
Today I wanted to talk about INCOSE’s Systems Engineering Vision 2025. As the world's authority on Systems Engineering, we have established a Vision to inspire and guide the direction of SE. The Vision was produced by a team of leaders from industry, academia and government with the intent that it will be used by people working in many domains – healthcare, utilities, transportation, defence, finance – who will add their unique perspectives to the role systems engineering plays in our serving our world’s many complicated demands. As well as describing today’s Global Context for SE and the Current State of SE, the Vision is most compelling when it foresees the Future State of SE. It describes the future state in terms of: applications of SE; transforming SE; SE foundations; roles and competencies; and education and training.
The final section of the Vision describes the forward path as shown below. Have a read of the Vision for yourself, get familiar with what we all need to do evolve the Vision and make it real, and get involved!
