Mission
Foster adaptability and adaptivity in systems engineering and its management by understanding, applying, and introducing the mechanisms and processes that enable these capabilities in systems—across the full systems engineering lifecycle.
Scope
ADAPTSEM’s scope centers on enabling adaptability/adaptivity through SE policy, process, tools, and guidance, including these main functional areas:
- Develop knowledge to understand, quantify, and create mechanisms and processes for system adaptability and adaptivity.
- Apply adaptability and adaptivity across lifecycle activities by managing uncertainty and enabling robust, adaptive solutions at the lifecycle, strategy, program, project, and portfolio levels.
- Coordinate transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary efforts across INCOSE and with external stakeholders.
- Address uncertainty in requirements and system architecture and design, including the switching costs that may occur across the lifecycle.
- Develop standards, guidelines, and professional competencies that support adaptability and adaptivity in systems engineering.
Goal
The primary goal is to create useful materials and services that help INCOSE members and their organizations improve systems engineering using system adaptability/adaptivity knowledge—by generating technical/practical knowledge, delivering guidelines/templates, and driving outreach and engagement.
