Call for Solutions

The INCOSE Corporate Advisory Board has identified 29 high-priority needs facing the systems engineering profession — and we’re not waiting to address them.

Our Call for Solutions (CFS) program puts these needs directly in front of the people best equipped to solve them: INCOSE members. Each CFS defines a specific problem, the criteria for a successful outcome, and how solutions will be evaluated.

Five CFSs are open now — deadline April 30, 2026

Call 1

Risk-Informed SE Process Tailoring: Maturity Profiles and Approved Reduction Frameworks

Seeking approaches for risk-based tailoring of SE rigor that help teams reduce effort appropriately without creating unsafe shortcuts or over-engineering.

Call 2

Compressed-Schedule SE: Methods for Delivering SE Value Under Time and Resource Constraints

Practical SE methods that deliver fast analytical value to support early decisions under compressed schedules, with evidence from beyond aerospace and defense.

Call 3

SE Competency Framework: Defining Capability Levels Across the SE Career Spectrum

Organizations need an INCOSE-endorsed framework that clearly defines systems engineering competency across career levels, including the pathway from practitioner to systems engineer. It should distinguish between generalist and specialist roles so organizations can assess capability gaps, guide development, and support hiring and promotion decisions.

Call 4

Cross-Vendor SE Tool Interoperability: Enabling SE Functions Across Fragmented Tool Ecosystem

Organizations need a vendor-neutral interoperability standard so SE work can happen across tools from different vendors, reducing time spent on integration and documentation instead of analysis.

Call 5

AI in SE Practice: Use Cases, Native Integration Patterns, and Quality Governance

Organizations need authoritative guidance on how AI should be used in systems engineering workflows, where it adds real value, and how AI-assisted outputs should be governed for quality and auditability before the space fragments into vendor-driven approaches.
