In this paper we examine the term “Systems of Systems” (SoS) and form a distinction between them and large monolithic systems based on system attributes and acquisition approaches. Importantly, for this paper, one of the distinguishing attributes is that SoS are formed from component systems that are acquired using multiple asynchronous projects.
