The need to re-focus attention on Human Factors issues in Systems Engineering has recently taken fresh impetus in the UK, as the cost-effectiveness of the human element in defence system procurement has been reconfirmed as a critical component in achieving fielded system success. British Aerospace Military Aircraft and Aerostructures (MA&A), in conjunction with the BAe Sowerby Research Centre, has for the past five years been engaged in activities aimed at ensuring that their Systems Engineering process improvement plans take full account of customer driven Human Factors Integration (HFI) requirements.
