The paper will discuss progress towards a new characterisation of architecture based on the activities of the recently formed INCOSE UK Chapter Architecture Working Group. The focus of the paper will be on describing the diversity of opinion we have observed in discussions of the fundamental characteristics of architecture and progress towards resolving the various conflicts that arise.
