Over the next 70 years the US Department of Energy (DOE) will spend more than $50 billion to deactivate, decommission and dismantle (D&D) facilities throughout its complex of production sites and Laboratories. This amount of funding will be difficult to obtain in an era of level or declining Federal budget.
