Must the teaching of Systems Engineering be restricted to a postgraduate level? Evidence from Loughborough University’s undergraduate course has taught us that this is not the case. So why stop there? Can you teach systems engineering in schools – to children from 5 to 18 years? Focussing mainly on the secondary level (11–18 years), this paper look at some of the issues, some of the UK-wide activities and at BAE Systems’s own programme of working with schools to bring the basics of systems engineering to the workforce of the future.
