Many organizations have successfully implemented Six Sigma (6σ) quality programs, but have begun to hit what they call the 5-sigma barrier — they have discovered that you can only get so much quality improvement from the back end of the development process. To overcome this 5-sigma barrier, organizations are increasingly adopting the Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodology that in many ways reflects the “systematics” of product development.
