At the International Symposium of 2000 in Minneapolis I presented a paper that suggested that in order to deal with emergent properties of increasingly complex systems, the typical systems engineer needed to go beyond the systematic and become more systemic in approach. This paper revisits the issues and suggests that, for many, progress along this road is rather slow.
