Effective and efficient programmatic decisions are required throughout the design, development, and operation of the International Space Station (ISS), which involves sixteen countries, over one million pounds of flight hardware, and an on-orbit assembly process spanning six years. Paramount to the success of the ISS, are the safety and mission assurance (S&MA) aspects of the program.
