A criticism that could be levied on the systems engineering profession is that while we have been working hard at it for a long time, the improvements in achieving a more scientific approach could be better than they have been. PRC is applying the Systems Engineering Capability Maturity Model (SE-CMM) to facilitate a more scientific systems engineering (SE) approach.
