Consistent comparison of applications which store data, written in different languages and using varying types of Database Management Systems, requires an assessment that measures the system(s) in accordance with a well defined, repeatable set of criteria. This paper describes a tool and methodology (MARS) for identifying the lifecycle risks related to data within existing applications, and describes the taxonomy of data quality assumed during the development of the assessment methodology.
