Complex systems-of-systems (SoS) such as Navy platforms are designed to execute counterbalancing mission objectives; and are operated for uncertain, and often extended lifecycles that may exceed fifty years. This necessitates numerous post-production design changes over-time to facilitate new technological developments or to counter emerging threats.
