This paper describes the NASA/USRA University Advanced Design Program (ADP) and the role it plays in providing a systems engineering experience for senior engineering students in “capstone” design courses. Experience with the program has resulted in conclusions about the factors that contribute to a positive experience in the course, with parallels drawn to the “real world.” The paper also presents on-going ADP activities designed to expand the impact of the program to a wider community.
