This paper presents the sequence of events and activities which have occurred as a major defense contractor began the migration to the commercial marketplace. This changeover has been focused on the need to modify development processes to continue to use the best parts of the discipline imposed by Military Standards (MIL-STDs), yet streamline them to avoid cumbersome and unnecessary tasks.
