This paper describes the Systems Engineering process used to develop new automotive products and shows how the process is driven by the automotive industry business issues. A history of Systems Engineering at General Motors is outlined, the role of the Systems Engineer in one of the advanced development group described, and future plans for improving the Systems Engineering process are discussed.
