Abstract: A system is a set of related components. Systems are often components of larger systems, as with a car on a highway network or a PC on the internet. Systems engineering is the transdisciplinary, integrative approach that INCOSE defines as enabling the realization, use, and retirement of engineered systems.
This webinar introduces the discipline through three aspects of integration.
The first is across time: the system life cycle runs from concept development through production, use, support, and retirement.
The second is across engineering disciplines, which keeps any one specialty’s view from dominating the design.
The third is across domains: a fielded capability depends on facilities, operations, training, and markets as well as hardware.
Two case studies are included to illustrate what happens when system engineering fails.
