Abstract: This webinar argues that three theoretical foundations – semantics, models of computation, and methodology – are what separate MBSE as a true engineering discipline from MBSE as a documentation exercise. Drawing on the central thesis of Model Based Systems Engineering: Theoretical Foundations (Wiley, 2025), the talk revisits the model/diagram distinction, the expressivity/tractability trade-off, and the often-overlooked relationship between systems, languages and models. It closes on what these foundations imply for the next phase of MBSE, including its integration with AI-driven approaches.
