As we celebrate the life and contributions of the late Dr. Barclay R. Brown, it is only fitting and proper that, on his birthday, 8 September, we honor him by announcing the launch of the Barclay R. Brown Foundation—created to preserve his legacy and continue his mission of Connecting Knowledge to What’s Next.
INCOSE is proud to support and collaborate with the Foundation as it carries forward Barclay’s mission, vision, and lifelong commitment to advancing others.
Barclay dedicated his life to advancing Systems Engineering, AI Research and Development, Systems Thinking, Quality Management, education, mentorship, innovation, and the development of others. He believed deeply in sharing knowledge, challenging conventional thinking, and applying our collective expertise to help shape what comes next.
The Foundation is led by Barclay’s wife and partner, Honor Allison Lind Brown, who serves as its President.
“This Foundation is deeply personal to me. It represents my commitment to honoring Barclay by continuing the work he cared so deeply about and ensuring that his knowledge, vision, and dedication to developing others will inspire and support generations to come,” said Honor.
The Barclay R. Brown Foundation was created not simply to remember what Barclay accomplished, but to ensure that his important work continues. Through scholarships, grants, educational initiatives, collaboration, and strategic giving, the Foundation will support students, early-career professionals, educators, researchers, organizations, and programs aligned with the principles and communities Barclay championed throughout his life.
INCOSE looks forward to collaborating with the Foundation on opportunities that advance Systems Engineering knowledge, education, professional development, mentorship, and support for the next generation.
Those who knew, worked with, learned from, or were inspired by Barclay are invited to help carry this mission forward by:
- Giving in Barclay’s memory to support people, programs, and ideas that reflect his vision for the future.
- Sharing a Barclay story—a memory, photograph, experience, paper, presentation, publication, collaborative project, or other piece of history that helps preserve the fuller story of his life and contributions.
These shared stories and works will become part of a living archive, allowing future generations to understand not only what Barclay accomplished, but also how he encouraged, mentored, inspired, and collaborated with others.
The greatest tribute we can give Barclay is not simply to remember him. It is to continue the work, share the knowledge, support the next generation, and carry his mission forward.
