The most significant evolution in systems modeling in nearly 20 years is officially here. Following the formal adoption of SysMLv2.0, the Object Management Group (OMG) has launched the brand-new Systems Modeling Language v2 (SysMLv2) Model User certification.
This entry-level credential recognizes individuals who can effectively interpret and understand SysMLv2 models in a systems engineering context. Developed by the subject matter experts who directly helped author the new standard, the exam validates proficiency in core v2 concepts—including structure, behavior, requirements, analysis, and verification cases—expressed in both graphical and textual syntax.
Key Details for Practitioners:
- Who It’s For: Engineers, analysts, and project managers working within MBSE-driven organizations or transitioning from SysMLv1 to v2.
- OCSMP Compatibility: This new series is entirely independent of and complementary to the existing OCSMP track. Current OCSMP certifications will not be superseded, though practitioners are highly encouraged to pursue v2 as the industry transitions.
- Future Tiers: OMG’s SysMLv2 Certification Working Group (SCWG) is currently developing a second tier—SysMLv2 Model Builder Fundamental—expected in early 2027 to cover model authorship.
