System decomposition is a fundamental way to deal with system complexity that a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodology must support. SysML v2 is the next generation systems modeling language that provides significantly improved capabilities over SysML v1 that facilitate system decomposition and other aspects of an MBSE methodology. OOSEM is an MBSE methodology that leverages SysML v1 and is being updated to leverage the new features of SysML v2. This paper describes how SysML v2 modeling patterns can be used by OOSEM and other methodologies to support effective system decomposition.
