Chris Jones, Dassault Systèmes: "Integration of Model Based System Design with Modelica into Systems Engineering Processes"

Abstract

Integration of Model Based System Design with Modelica into Systems Engineering Processes

It has become widely understood that Systems Engineering methodologies bear significant advantages to product development including better alignment with market demand, higher quality product, faster certification and better downstream upgradeability. Unfortunately many established aspects of systems engineering have become somewhat academic and disconnected from the reality of product development. New and innovative technologies and tools are starting to converge theoretical methodology with day-to-day engineering. For example the coveted companywide single source of truth is now a tangible reality; enabling traceability through all facets of the development process throughout the entire product lifecycle. This presentation provides an overview of Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform including the open modelling language Modelica, and elicits how systems engineering in an organizational context can unify workflows, tools and traditionally disparate organizations.

Biography

Chris Jones graduated from the University of Paderborn (Germany) in 2010 with an electronical engineering diploma, focused on the numerical simulation of electro-magnetic waves and waveguides. Following that he spent two years researching plasmonics waveguides at the University of Hagen (Germany). In 2013 he joined Dassault Systèmes and started using MBSD and Modelica in different projects at various automotive OEMs in Europe. In the summer of 2016 he relocated to Los Angeles to support the systems engineering and Modelica efforts in the North American market.
