Title: "Vector Spaces, Projections, and Patterns: Support for MBSE, Learning, and Trust"

Abstract: This talk summarizes how the historical mathematical models of STEM now provide powerful vector space representational methods enabling discovery, learning, expression, analysis, and application of recurrent patterns and their models. For Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Patterns in particular, this provides means of understanding degrees of “closeness” (consistency) of MBSE models—not just for quantitative aspects, but also for their discrete, stochastic, qualitative, or semantic structure. What do we mean by “closeness” when the model is about structure and semantics, not just numbers? Among related implications are a unified view of model VVUQ methods for numerical computational models versus MBSE system models and the systems they describe. It also provides the basis for understanding aspects of current AI representation of prose (LLM) as well as technical models, and the integration of related human, enterprise and AI capabilities.

Bio: Bill Schindel is president of ICTT System Sciences, active in defense, medical, and other sectors. His engineering career began in mil/aero systems with IBM Federal Systems, including faculty service at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and founding of three systems enterprises. He is an INCOSE Fellow, chair of the MBSE Patterns Working Group of the INCOSE/OMG MBSE Initiative and was a member of the lead team of the INCOSE Agile Systems Engineering Life Cycle Discovery Project. A member of ASME and AIAA, he has served on their publication authoring teams for reference models and guidelines for digital threads and twins and model credibility in advanced manufacturing.
