We invite you to join a collaborative and forward-looking webinar that explores recent advancements in our collective understanding of Systems Modeling & Simulation (SMS). Whether you are a simulation expert, systems engineer, or MBSE practitioner, your voice is vital in advancing this shared understanding. Join us in shaping the future of SMS. This session features selected insights & highlights from 2025 international conference contributions, developed and delivered collaboratively by SMSWG team members Frank Popielas, Rod Dreisbach, Greg Garstecki, and Alexander Busch, together with Phyllis Marbach:

  • “What Simulation Engineers Need to Know About MBSE” from the NAFEMS World Congress 2025;
  • “Generalizing the Systems Engineering Vee: Adding Time as a Third Dimension and Refining the Role of Analysis Tools” from the INCOSE International Symposium 2025;
  • “Bridging the Divide: Linking Architectural Specification and Verification by System Simulation” also from the INCOSE International Symposium 2025.

These results help bridging the gap between the simulation and systems engineering communities, introduce more dynamic interpretations of the SE Vee in line with virtual product development and Verification & Validation (V&V) by analysis and simulation, and stimulate deeper integration of analysis and simulation tools into model-based workflows. This interactive session offers participants the opportunity to review these developments, contribute their perspectives, and shape an emerging consensus on a foundational question: What is SMS? Engagement formats will include:

  • Open Mic Discussions, where attendees can voice thoughts, raise challenges, or offer alternative views in real time, and
  • Live Polling and Voting, enabling instant feedback on key definitions, priorities, and directions for future work.
