Abstract: Model-based systems engineering thrives on fast, realistic simulation across disciplines. Dymola—powered by the open Modelica language—enables multi-domain modeling of complex cyber-physical systems by composing reusable components across mechanical, electrical, thermofluid, and control domains. Using Modelica’s equation-based, acausal paradigm, engineers validate designs early: build high-fidelity plant models, run parameter sweeps and design-space exploration, and generate reduced-order models for rapid iteration. We will demonstrate interoperability via FMI for co-simulation with control design and HIL platforms, and how Dymola integrates into toolchains for requirements traceability and digital twins. Real-world case studies from automotive, aerospace, and high-tech show how early trade-off analysis, calibration, and what-if studies, shorten test cycles, and increase confidence through virtual simulations—well before the full system exists.
