INCOSE Enchantment: Realizing the Vision - Digital Engineering and Modeling & Simulation at OSD

Meeting Title: Realizing the Vision: Digital Engineering and Modeling & Simulation at OSD
Presenter Name: Daniel Hettema, CSEP
Date: Wednesday, 8 November 2023
Time: 4:45 PM - 6:00 PM Mountain Time
Venue: Online via ZOOM

Registration: Zoom link is provided in the meeting invitation; contact the POC to request the meeting invitation.

Abstract:
The Department of Defense (DoD) continues its commitment to Digital Engineering (DE) and the application of Modeling & Simulation (M&S). Adoption of digital methods, tools, techniques, and infrastructures continue to accelerate as we face the threats of today and tomorrow. Successes can be found across the defense industrial base as goals of the DE are being realized from the enterprise down to programs, systems, and below. The DoD and the industrial base must continue to evolve how we collaborate, improve the utilization of digital environments, and demonstrate value to decision makers to grow our adversarial advantage. This presentation will address the renewed vision, frame the value proposition, and highlight some key initiatives with the Digital Engineering, Modeling & Simulation (DEM&S) Directorate to realize that vision.

Biography:
Daniel Hettema, CSEP
is the Director of Digital Engineering, Modeling and Simulation (DEM&S) within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. He oversees DoD-wide strategy, policy, and coordination in DEM&S and promotes the advancement of digital practices in defense acquisition. Mr. Hettema brings experience in model-based systems engineering and digital engineering in both government and industry supporting the Joint Staff, National Nuclear Security Agency, and the Intelligence Community. He has held leadership roles in the International Council on Systems Engineering, at the local Washington, D.C., level and as a Corporate Advisory Board representative. He has presented numerous topics on systems engineering and digital engineering. Mr. Hettema holds a B.S. in Systems Engineering from George Mason University, and an M.S. in Space Systems from Johns Hopkins University.
