Sectors & Chapters play an essential role in the achievement of INCOSE’s goals and objectives, organizing a multitude of professional and social programs; attracting new members from industry, government and academia; supporting technical activities striving to advance the state and art of systems engineering; and, showcasing INCOSE as the international authoritative body on systems engineering that it is.

Joining a Chapter

Most members select a chapter when they join or renew their INCOSE membership. If you wish to select or change your chapter affiliation at any time, access your user profile (click the circular icon with your name or photo in the upper right of any INCOSE web page), select Profile Home and then choose Change your Chapter.

Abstract:

In 2016, the National Institute for Standards & Technology released NIST Special Publication 800-160 -guidance addressing the systems engineering subdiscipline of systems security engineering (redesignated NIST SP 800-160 volume 1 in 2018). In 2021, NIST kicked off an update to this seminal document to update for advances and lessons learned from its use, released Nov 2022.

Renamed “Engineering Trustworthy Secure Systems” Volume 1 Revision 1 aligns closely (partially intentionally, partially coincidentally) with INCOSE’s Systems Engineering Vision 2035 and supporting efforts such as security in the Future of Systems Engineering (FuSE). This presentation will discuss NIST SP 800-160 Volume 1 Revision 1 in its role as describing principles and concepts for a systems engineering team’s role with engineering trustworthy secure systems while relating it to INCOSE efforts and initiatives.

Biography
Dr. Mark Winstead specializes in integrating security and mission assurance considerations into systems engineering from needs determination and concept exploration to disposal. His work at MITRE has centered on strategic weapon systems including support for AFLCMC/HBQ (Strategic Warning and Space Surveillance), AFNWC, AFGSC, OUSD(R&E), DHS, and STRATCOM programs, as well as supporting NIST.

Dr. Winstead is responsible for the Systems Security Engineering Department’s technical strategy, technical quality of deliverables, and pushing innovation into the department’s work program. MITRE's Systems Security Engineering Department provides systems security engineering capabilities and support. Department sponsors include AFGSC, AFNWC, SSC, AFLCMC, most other Air Force MAJCOMs, MDA, Navy, Army, Veterans Administration, the IC, DISA, OSD, DHS, FAA, OUSD(R*E), NIST, USSF, Spacecom, and various sub-organizations of each.
