Abstract:Artificial intelligence is everywhere, as a buzzword for excitement, fear, automation, human existence and wellbeing, barometer of progress, and a hyped panacea to cure many medical conditions. Yet, AI has largely failed to live up to its hype in medicine while generating new confusions about the role of humans in the process of patient care and bringing up serious concerns about privacy, accuracy, and bias in care… Yet, we are still waiting for advanced AI to cure more cancer or neurological disorders. Let’s talk about the concerns, the role of humans in medical AI, the strive to achieve accuracy if not perfection, the real value of medical AI, and what (beyond hype) has been achieved to live up to grand expectations: digital twins, digital pathology, large language models designed specifically for healthcare. We will also discuss Augmented Intelligence as a more humane and comfortable concept for all. Slides will be provided to share knowledge and updates, but a lively dialog is always appreciated.
