Abstract
In the State of Colorado, there are shortages of affordable energy and water from sources that are acceptable from the perspective of existing environmental policy. The related usage patterns of energy and water suggest that these problems are closely related, in what has been called an "Energy Water Nexus". As a complex systems engineering problem, the Energy Water Nexus (EWN) is about the efficient use of both resources – energy and water. Classical systems engineering methods can, at best, get us part way to a solution. A transformational approach is required to understand and solve this wicked problem. We start with a careful data-driven root cause analysis to thoroughly understand the locus of the problem and identify important causal factors. This understanding directly leads to candidate solution strategies, including management of emergent behavior, for this complex system of systems.
Biography
Dr. Bill Good is an experienced and diversified systems engineer and manager of government and commercial projects. He is an effective decision maker and a dependable and thorough planner. He is an innovative and effective communicator. He is an accomplished airline pilot with 30,000 flight hours in over 100 types of aircraft. He currently works at the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) as an Operations Research Analyst for asset management, modeling & simulation, and training for Ballistic Missile Defense Systems (BMDS).

Attendance to this Chapter Meeting is open to all INCOSE Colorado Front Range Chapter members, their invited colleagues, and to interested non-members. The meal is a buffet dinner at $12-$14.00 per person. Should you decide not to purchase a meal, you can still attend the presentation and it will be FREE! If this is your choice, please plan to arrive at about 6:30 pm which should be close to the end of the meal.
