As cyber threats evolve in scale and sophistication, cybersecurity must become a foundational component of systems engineering. This presentation explores how engineers can integrate threat models including CWE, CVE, and CAPEC mappings alongside compliance frameworks such as CMMC and NIST 800-171 into hardware, software, and firmware architectures. Attendees will gain insight into formalizing cybersecurity through traceable requirements, model-based engineering practices, and AI-supported tooling such as ChatGPT or corporate LLM's. The session also highlights recent trends and practical approaches for enabling cybersecurity as a core discipline across sectors from energy to transportation, aerospace to healthcare illustrating how INCOSE professionals can drive secure, scalable, and cost-effective system development in today’s rapidly changing threat landscape. We may explain what the alphabet soup means. Speaker: Andrew Benigno; Founder and Cyber Systems Architect, AegisOrion LLC Andrew’s journey began as an active-duty Airman with a fundamental understanding of cybersecurity. That foundation quickly evolved when he uncovered a critical infrastructure vulnerability impacting Pacific-region operations. His discovery led to emergency congressional funding and ignited his passion for systems engineering as a tool to identify, communicate, and remediate complex security risks.
You are welcome to join us online via zoom after 5:30pm PT for non-moderated conversation while we feast live at The Aerospace Corporation; we might have a tip jar. The presentations will be recorded and available on zoom for about a year - please ask. We may eventually post .pdf slides on our website, soon as we learn how to do it.
